It’s Sunday morning and my kidney donation surgery was on Friday. I am lying in my hospital bed. The pain is sort of bad today, because I’m trying to just use Tylenol without any oxycodone, at least part of the time. Doing so will hopefully keep my bowels active. They want me to have a fully active digestive system before they let me go home.
Your bowels sort of go to sleep as a result of the surgery, and the heavy pain medication keeps them from waking up. It’s hard to give up the pain medication, but probably worth it.
They removed the catheter yesterday morning. So now I get up to go to the bathroom. It’s good to be moving around. But getting in and out of bed is the worst part – so painful. I’ve been up and walking three times also.
My nurse yesterday – Keith – is a kidney recipient. He received his kidney 8 years ago, and that’s why he became a nurse. So cool.
All my friends and family have been so great – getting me through this. My stepdad is doing really well. We’re all so thankful.
Well, I’d like to write more, but I’m tired. I’ll post again soon.
