We are now at the point in our Ironman training, where we either have it or we don’t. We did our hardest weekends of training last week and this week. Last week, in addition to our weekday workouts, we did a 109-mile bike & 3-mile run brick, followed by a 16-mile run the next day. This Saturday, we did a 62-mile bike & 5-mile run brick, and Sunday, we did an 18-mile run. Now, we start to back off. We now have 20 days until IMAZ.
This week’s workouts will still be substantial, but nothing like the previous two weeks. And then next week, our training plan has the word “easy” written all over it … “Easy swim” … “Easy bike” … “Easy Run” … And so forth. That’s when we will be in full-on “tapering” mode. I will be doing lots if stretching in the hot tub at the gym. And foam rolling. And sleeping. (Foam rolling is where you use this foam roller to massage out the kinks in your muscles. You sort of sit or lie on it and roll back and forth.)
I had wanted to work up to a 20-mile run, but it just didn’t happen. I am listening to my body, and it’s saying that anything more will lead to injury. I think Craig feels the same way.
Besides, we need all this extra time to pack. I am already obsessing about what needs to be set aside for the suitcase. But that’s a blog entry all to itself. Tune in next week to find out…

Yep, you’ve done all you can. You’ve worked as hard as you could. You planned wisely and it will pay off. If fear and doubt try to creep in, tell them they are not invited to this party. Chin and eyes up; here you go! ~M.
P.S. Looking forward to the packing post because I need help with that, myself! Love you!
Thanks, Michelle! With you as part of my support crew, I know I can’t go wrong! I wanted to write about the packing this week, but I thought people would get bored with my obsession over what to take. That part almost seems harder than doing the race 😉
