So, my friend Emily convinced me to try Bikram again. It really is wonderful. I think the reason I made fun of it in my last post is because of my own insecurity about it. It’s hard. And, even the smallest parts of it are hard… Like when the instructor tells you to cross your left thumb over your right on the second set instead of right over left. Why is that so hard? And, I catch myself in the mirror with a weird concentrated face and realize how ridiculous I look. In Eagle, I can hardly get my big, muscular legs to wrap around each other, and we won’t even talk about my arms. And in Camel, I always feel like I’m about to pass out. But I really do feel refreshed and stretched out afterward. For this reason alone, I think it’s worth trying. Just TRY to take it easy, though. Please. I find that it’s hard to take it easy, because I have this uncontrollable urge to do (or try to do) everything the instructor says. But you have to give yourself permission to just do your own thing to some extent. I mean it’s REALLY important to take it easy… probably in any yoga class, but especially in Bikram.
Happy sweating…
